Summary/Abstract: Based on the example of four contrasting in genre and type but united by a common theme works (Guillaume Cottrau’s song Fenesta Vascia) – Tarantella Venezia e Napoli from the supplement to Years of Pilgrimage – first and second versions S. 159 (1840) and S. 162 (1859) by Franz Liszt, Fenesta Vascia piano transcription (1863) by Sigismond Thalberg and the novel Sans Famille (1878) by Hector Malot – the paper outlines the significance of songs in the instrumental music of Romanticism and, in a broader sense, in nineteenth- century art. Songs are a creative impulse and a basis of inter-genre syntheses and thematic material, whose various recreations encourage ideas in the field of piano technique and interactions in the field of form creation involving variancy, sonata and suite forms. Inspired by the singing intonations of the era, Romantic Culture not only develops a system of instruments to be extrapolated in the instrumental sphere, but coveys through time the spirituality that triggered them.
