Summary/Abstract: The article is based on data from Slavic languages (especially from their non-standard dialects), as well as from folklore, customs and beliefs containing ethnic stereotypes. The aim of the study is to investigate the mechanisms underlying the linguistic and the non-linguistic, cultural sphere. The interdependence of the two may be realized in various directions: 1) from non-linguistic cultural codes to language; 2) parallel motifs in language and culture; 3) from language to non-linguistic codes of culture (in which case language itself creates cultural contexts with its own means, such as sound symbolism). Regardless of the type of the links between the codes, each of them has its own specific ways of representing ethnocultural information. An inquiry into the linguocultural relationships may be of real assistance when certain incomprehensible linguistic or non-linguistic facts are investigated. It also provides for the reconstruction of images in a thematic sphere in which the stereotype is actualized. Possibilities of such reconstruction are considered in reference to the thematic field “agricultural work”.
