DEVELOPMENT OF DEMOGRAPHY IN SERBIA

Summary/Abstract: Serbia has been facing a series of serious population challenges for decades. Consequently there is a special need to study the characteristics, deterministic factors, consequences, regularities in movements and expected changes in the foreseeable future for each of them. This is the task of the demographers. In that sense, many questions are imposed. The most significant have to do with the development of an institutional framework and educational basis of demography in our country, the state of discipline, as well as efforts which demographers should undertake in order to impose the findings of the science on population on decision makers. The central part of this paper deals with the consideration of the identified questions.
