Summary/Abstract: Structural violence is one of the basic theoretical concepts in the contemporary medical anthropology. Its conceptual origin lies in the liberation theology and the peace studies of the 1960s but the form in which it is present in medical anthropology, anthropology in general and in all the scientific disciplines concerned with social and cultural aspects of human health today it owes to the works of Paul Farmer. Structural violence is considered to be an important element of public health in economically poorest and socially unstable countries as well as in the most developed countries, considering that in every sociocultural environment and socioeconomic formation there are social groups whose medical status is threatened by various diseases mediated by non-medical factors.
