Summary/Abstract: Long-life communist regime and its Socialist and Radical-Parties succesors in Serbia, leaned upon authoritative political system, state revenue and xenophobia, have never been able to form civil nor yet national identity of Serbia. Serbian society is still at parting of two ways, parting between Westernization and self-sufficiency. Nowadays, however, there is no dilemma at all: if it is to survive, Sebia has to open its boundaries and to conform to the world power constellation, be it ever unjust and unlawful. Openness towards the Other is not in opposition to national tradition and inheritance that could arouse Serbia from long-life lethargy. For this purpose, Serbia has to form democratic noncorrupted institutions, that would support evolvement of national self-confidence along with rational reflection of postmodern world that we live in.
