Summary/Abstract: This work contains the analysis of demographic development on Kosovo and Metohia within the period 1948 - 1991, with special attention to the causes and consequences of it. Author first gives a scetch of main traits of ethnical structure and factors of changes of portions of various nationalities in whole population. Thereafter attention is paid to the features and causes of high fertility, including the attitudes on marriage and femily among inhabitants and their consequences for reproductive behaviour. In the third part of the article author gives short analysis of migrations as an important ingredient of demographic picture of Kosovo and Metohia. Analysed data are provided mostly through census, statistical bulletins and surveys made in 1997.
