Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes the roles which social resources and social capital have within the process of acquiring social status. In this respect, the theory of social networks identifies two key problems: firstly, how are we to define the notion of social resources and in what way are we to make it operational; and secondly, what is the role of social resources in the process of acquiring social status. Up-to-date research place emphasis either on resources owned by the individuals themselves or on the resources that exist in the network. One of the answers offered by this theory considers synthesis of the “contact as a resource“ and “network as a resource“, that is the conclusion that the acquisition of social status and access to and the usage of social resources have an important role. On the other hand, social capital represents the position which an individual occupies in the network and it also influences the cooperation of its members.
