People smuggling through Polish border regarding the empirical studies

Summary/Abstract: Research of criminal cases’ court files under the umbrella of the research project resulted in the Katarzyna Laskowska’s publication called ‘People smuggling through Polish border regarding the empirical studies’. The project was pursued between 2013 and 2017 and funded by The National Centre for Research and Development. Files of 101 criminal cases, which apply to 170 foreigners convicted of taking part in organised crime in Poland between 2004–2013, were analyzed in detail. Additionally, the range of the crime related to this system was described in the elaboration while underlying the rigamolore of people smuggling through Polish border. The issues such as characteristics of the criminals, size of the organized criminal groups, stages of the crime as well as profits gained by the criminals were also tackled in the paper. In conclusion, the author pointed out the connection between poeple smuggling and other types of crime.
