Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the mutual influence of folklore and literature. On the example of Orest Somov’s story Kikimora and Alexandr Orlov’s story Devil’s Nights it is shown how “terrible” and parody is combined. Formal signs of the text reveal the influence of folklore (the use of various conspiracies, hitch-hats), but these borrowings are combined with parodic forms. Both recognized authors and “writers from the people” of the first third of the nineteenth century. They used them in “terrible” stories, novels, stories, creating “pseudo-folklore” works in the context of the “third culture.”
