Summary/Abstract: The founding of the Brukenthal Library was made possible due to the book collection purchased by Samuel Baron von Brukenthal (15.972 volumes), enlarged over the years through the means of other collections, among which the Chapel Library, founded as early as the 14 century, encompassing the Dominican Monastery Library, the collections or libraries which had belonged to the rich Patriciate families of Sibiu, as well as the book collections of Academy of Law. To all these, the Brukenthal Library was enriched thanks to private donations, either from Transylvania or from abroad.
