Summary/Abstract: The historiographical sources on the history of the town of Zelenodolsk of the Republic of Tatarstan over the period of the 1960s – 1990s have been analyzed. The range of researchers, who contributed most significantly to urban historiography, has been defined. They are G. Korsakov, N. Kokliyugin, V. Fedotov, et al. The evolution of the approaches to the study of the events of the 1860s – 1950s has been demonstrated. The periodization of regional historiography has been discussed. The characteristic features of the Soviet (1960 – 1980s) and post-Soviet (1990 – 2010s) periods have been singled out. The most important historiographical sources have been described. The growth of the number of publications on the history of Zelenodolsk in the 1990s and 2000s has been emphasized and linked to the celebration of local anniversaries. Within the suggested periodization of regional historiography, the typical features of each period and of regional historiography as a whole have been considered. The urgent problems and questions of regional history that are of interest to specialists have been analyzed. The problem of mythologization of local history in the writings of a number of authors has been considered and explained. The paper is useful to historians, regional historians, teachers, and students of universities, and those who are interested in the history of Tatarstan localities.
