TRANSNATIONAL MODELS OF CONTEXTUALISING CONTEMPORARY LITERATURE BY WOMEN IN DIASPORA

Summary/Abstract: Drawing on recent scholarship on the representation of migration, diaspora, dislocation, and relocation within transnational literature viewed from a feminist perspective, the paper embarks on juxtaposing and illustrating a number of transnational models of contextualising contemporary women’s literary works, with a particular emphasis on four post-Yugoslav semiautobiographical novels written in English and published outside the author’s homeland in the last two decades. Applying and challenging existing theoretical concepts that define ideas and practices of transnational understanding of migrations and nomadic sensibility, the paper draws attention to a rather neglected area of literature, addressing the necessity of mapping South-East European women’s literary production in diaspora and the need for an active third-geography dialogue between the cultures and traditions of host countries and countries of origin.
