Summary/Abstract: This article presents some additional data (orthographic and linguistic) for corroborating a hypothesis about the authorship of the translation / editing of the unattributed text The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew, chapters 5-8) of the schoolbook The Abridged Gospel (1862) by V.Stoykov in his dissertation thesis (2017). In it the author arrives at the conclusion that, first, the text is part of the whole translation prepared by P. R. Slaveykov of the New Testament, ordered by the two bible societies – the British and Foreign Bible Society and the American Bible Society, and second, that it is the only one preserved in its authentic (unedited) version. The documentary facts that are pointed out and the logical associations ensuing from the conducted textological analysis corroborate the veracity of the first part of the hypothesis (that the excerpt is part of Slaveykov’s translation of the New Testament), but at the same time there are indications that changes have been made. Through a complex orthographic, spelling and linguistic analysis of Slaveykov’s manuscripts and printed editions a core of systematically used linguistic rules in his whole literary practice were detected. The usage of the greater part of these rules in the excerpt at hand from Matthew, ch. 5: 8 (1862) shows that it stands very close to the rules P.R. Slaveykov uses, but the spelling does not correspond entirely to Slaveykov’s spelling system, but there are deviations in certain rules. This gives us ground to assume that the printed version was not presented entirely in the original, therefore, it was corrected and probably edited.
