Repetition: Research on Its Theoretical and Experimental-psychological Aspects in Music

Summary/Abstract: The article explores repetition as a meaningful component of artistic structure. The author discusses problematic aspects of interpretation of a certain principle in musicology, pointing to the contradiction between information properties of repetition, and dynamics of artistic structure deployment in real time. In connection to this article, a special attention is paid to the psychological component of music perception using exact repetition. Cognitive psychological processes are considered, also their functional organization of repetition. As a practical perspective to the study of the subject, results of the author’s experiment “Music forecasting” are brought along, aimed at displaying listeners’ expectations’ dynamics in music perception, related to several exact repetition in the music content.
