Summary/Abstract: Vesela Boyadjieva’s ‘Early Russian Orthodox Score as an Image of the Inverse Perspective’ represents an innovative and comprehensive theory of the inverse perspective as metaphor. Her perceptive analysis of polyphonic techniques leads to a new interpretation of Western European terminology. The study’s main claim to originality lies in its methodology, whereby the iconographic application of the inverse perspective is conceived as a metaphor that is reflected in the philosophy, semiotics, and musical-linguistic strata of early Russian polyphony. Its presentation of musicological issues in a broad hermeneutic context yields new objects and layers of scholarship.
