Early Bronze Age Quiver Sets from the North Black Sea Region

Summary/Abstract: The article analyzes nine complexes with sets of arrowheads, which various researchers attributed to the Pit Graves cultural and historical community of the North Black Sea region. The three burials with sets of arrows from the right bank of the Lower Dnieper date back to the Eneolithic. Four secondary graves from the Dniester region and the main grave from the piedmont Crimea are the late burials of the Pit Graves cultural and historical community. Features of the funerary rite and grave goods point to the high social status of the deceased. Quiver sets, as well as “production sets of arrow makers” are typical of Catacomb cultures. The late burials of the Pit Graves cultural and historical community with quiver sets were located in territories where Catacomb sites appear massively relatively late. Appearance of the considered complexes should be associated with Catacomb influences.
