Summary/Abstract: The present case study is the second offspring of my ethnomusicological interest in the “otherness” of the Gypsies (Statelova 1995). This time my interest was provoked by an unusual personality: the 38-year old artist Anita Kristy, who for two years now has been at the threshold of the pop and folk stage in Bulgaria waiting to be heard. And while waiting, she is creating lyrics and music, recording songs, and preparing flamenco shows. She takes part in shows here and there, she is covered by the media. Recently, she stood out prominently as a phenomenon at the Fifth National Festival of Gypsy Music and Songs in Stara Zagora.
