Summary/Abstract: The following article is based on certain observations upon the specificities of the process of university student translation and the particular problems and challenges such tasks involve. More specifically, the paper stresses the resulting lack of conscious awareness on the part of university students regarding the purpose of translation in the context of their university education. The lack of such understanding is considered not only a fundamental obstacle to good translation and a major source of frustration, but is also seen as detrimental to the achievement of the objectives of translation tasks as part of university education.
