Summary/Abstract: This paper discusses the awakening of Bosnian literature after years of silence and its entry into the European literary trends. We will follow the manner in which the Bosniak writers influenced social and economic situation in Bosnia. We will, also, address the journals (Bosniak, Behar, Gajret) which were the main medium for the affirmation of Bosniak writers. It is well known that Muslims in the early years of the occupation did not have so many people who mastered the western literacy, in this case the Latin or Cyrillic script, and thus issuing of Muslim newspaper in the vernacular written on one of these scripts would not have enough associates, and in particular readership. With the contents which represented Muslim interests in the spirit of the new times arriving with the Austro-Hungarian administration, these publication were for Bosniaks transient form of spiritual reading.
