Summary/Abstract: The documentary, narrative and archaeological evidence searched and analyzed unequivocally reveals the active commercial presence of Florence in the Bulgarian lands for a long period. Initially, it was expressed as an increased interest in quality agricultural and livestock products (exports of wheat and barley, wax and leather) and subsequently as import of Florentine fabrics, Florentine majolica and others. Initially, the Florentine trade in the Bulgarian lands was led through Constantinople and Pera. Subsequently, the Florentine merchants and their imported goods entered the interior of the Bulgarian lands and their centers of activity became Edirne, Plovdiv and Sofia. The strengthening of the Florentine trade was particularly important in the second half of the 15th century. This was largely due to cooperation with Dubrovnik merchants and the transformation of Dubrovnik into an important point of departure for the Italian cities to the interior of the Balkans. There can be no doubt that future studies in the archives and libraries of Tuscany will reveal new and significantly wealthier information on the Florentine trade presence on the Balkans and in the Bulgarian borders.
