Summary/Abstract: The aim of this article is to analyse the popular ballad The little ewe and to see why Alecsandri's version of the ballad became the foundation of the pastoral myth and it also represents a source of inspiration for many others literary works. A complot between two shepards that intend to kill their third companion for pecuniary reasons brings us the fascinant point of view that the Moldavian has in front of his own death. The death is not considered to be an end, but a new beginning and a reinstatement in the nature. The paper also analyzes the significance of many gestures, words and even objects that makes destiny more easily understood.
