Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the 29th chapter of the second book of Attic Nights by Aulus Gellius. This Roman writer and scholar of the 2nd century AD included in that chapter one of the fables of Phrygian Aesop. This piece has not been examined in detail in Polish yet; however, the issue it tackles was analysed in terms of history, but most importantly in terms of language studies. The fact that Gellius quoted other Latin and Greek authors as well as used extensive fragments of their works, often not preserved in original, makes Attic Nights a priceless source of knowledge about the ancient world because that collection comprises considerable antiquarian material.
