Summary/Abstract: The article follows a possible mechanism of adverbialization in Slavic languages on the basis of the neuter simple declension adjectives in the nominative-accusative case. There is no proof in the North-Slavic material of such a transformation. However, it can be inferred from the oldest data with the masculine adjectives in the nominative case. The adverbialization of adjectives took places due to the: (1) the attribute position of the simple declension adjective; (2) the double determination (the ‘adverbial-potentially’ adjectives were secondary predicatives, of the ad-nominal formally status but semantically the ad-verbal status); 3) the substantivization, and 4) the demorphologization of the primal adjectives.
