Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on the Czech verb trápit (depending on the context translated usually as ‘worry / bother / trouble / suffer / torment’) and its possible equivalents found in a Czech-Polish dictionary and in the parallel corpus InterCorp, presenting an attempt to verify whether valency requirements of the Czech verb have any impact on the choice of the equivalent, and if they are preserved in the translation. The research includes automatic extraction of the corpus data and manual analysis of all the excerpted parallel and aligned segments. The segments are analyzed in order to check how the Czech verb trápit was translated and whether the translation replicates the valency requirements of the original verb. As a result, the article shows in which cases the valency is lost and when it is preserved.
