Summary/Abstract: This study shows the relationship between the level of social security and migration balance index. The highest level of social security is associated with large urban regions. People move to the peripheral areas of big cities, where growing infrastructure and a high level of social security gives the opportunity to lead safe lives. In addition, the sites located outside the large urban regions tend to have generally negative migration balance index, even if they provide a high level of social security. It has been shown that in the future there is a chance to create a bipolar system Warszawa–Łódź, especially when there will be a highway connection between these cities, that may contribute to a more dynamic development of Łódź.
