Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the notion of a global “miatiezewojna,” coined by Jewgienij Eduardovich Messner. It consists in taking the enemy nation “captive” – not in the physical sense, but in the psychological one, by strengthening it in the conviction that our ideas are valid. Over thirty years after Messner’s death, many of his recommendations were applied in the military and political practice of the western countries. In Russia, as well as in these countries, the notion of miatiezewojna was also considered an extraordinary method of waging war, to some extent. The Russian Federation noticed the development of the army of special purpose and it began to form divisions which are on constant standby and which are made up of professional soldiers. Both the concept of asymmetrical wars and the notion of miatiezewojna show the threats for all the modern world. Jewgienij Messner could not foresee such forms of miatiezewojna as cyber-terrorism, but nevertheless he is the predecessor in the fi eld of studies of the asymmetry phenomenon and the nonclassical, innovative forms of warfare
