Summary/Abstract: Research of the remains of the Monastery of Holy Archangels near Prizren was first conducted by the historian Radoslav Grujić in the summer of 1927. It is little known, however, that amateur archaeological excavations were carried out in this place by the pupils of Prizren Gymnasium led by the school’s principal Mihailo J. Miladinović in 1923. In this endeavour they asked for permission and support from the Serbian Royal Academy, but they did not receive it because they were not professional archeologists, as well as because at the time the Academy provided support for archaeological excavations at other sites in the country. This bold undertaking remains recorded as an attempt to preserve Emperor Dušan’s Monastery of the Holy Archangels for coming generations as a cultural site of inestimable value.
