Summary/Abstract: Peripheral regions, and especially border regions, play an increasingly important role in the development of individual countries. For decades, they were considered as areas which inevitably had to be marginalized. Very often they were deliberately not developed due to their location far from decision-making centers, thin population, and the restrictive character of the border. In the uniting Europe, where inner borders ceased to be divisive, the border regions deserve a special interest and support. One of the most interesting border regions in Europe is the Polish-German borderland.
