Summary/Abstract: Before Islam epoch the female culture has been completely dominated by the male culture. The woman has been almost completely objectified, which has led to newly born baby girls being buried alive, if that was the decision of the father. The woman had practically no rights. She was not able to refuse marriage if asked by a man, she was not able to object to a divorce, she had was not able to have her own opinion. With the appearance of the Koran as a source of the Muslim faith, the position of the woman in the society and in the family has become a little better, which does not mean that women began to be treated on an equal footing with men. In spite of the fact that the Koran underlines the dominance of man, the situation of the woman, in comparison to the pre-Muslim state, has changed a lot. The difficult situation of Muslim women has been often described in literature. In the novel by Julia Sysoeva there has been outlined the role of the woman in the Muslim world on the basis of concrete situations. Aliona, the main heroin of the novel fell in love with a Muslim, who taking advantage of her love, put her in a camp in which women were prepared to take part in terrorist activities.
