Summary/Abstract: The present study of the composite word-terms in John Exarch’s translation of part of De Fide Orthodoxa was made in regard to their composition, structure and semantics. The study used the synchronous approach – the words under discussion from the analysed text were collated with the lexemes of the same category in the classical Old Bulgarian monuments (10th-11th cc) and with the language of the Old Bulgarian original and translated works preserved in later copies. The aim of this collation was to give an idea of the application of composition as a term-forming device during the same period, analogy as used in this kind of word-building, the treatment of the Greek models (free translation or strict adherence to the form), and synonymy and use of doublets in conveying the meaning of the composite theological terms on microsystem and macrosystem levels.
