Summary/Abstract: The article explores the linguistic features that link the translation of the chronological compilation known as Slavic version of the Chronicle of George Synkellos with historical and political situation in Bulgaria during the reign of Simeon. Special emphasis is put on the so called Preslav features in both the lexis and the system of conjunctions that reveal a lot of coincidences with the lexical preferences and translation techniques of John Exarch. In our opinion this man of letters was chosen by knyaz Simeon as a trusted and experienced person to introduce the Christian history to the newly converted Bulgarian people translating the chronological compilation based on the rather concise Africanus’ Chronography.
