Grammatical cases and the interpretational properties of elements removed from a coordinated structure in Czech

Summary/Abstract: This paper is concerned with grammatical cases and the interpretational properties of elements removed from a coordinated structure in Czech. It is shown that the extracted element occurring in the left periphery of the sentence does not have to receive a single identity interpretation, in contrast to the widespread view presented in specialized literature. Constructions with such properties are analyzed in terms of multiple movements and a phonological operation reducing identical phonological strings.
