Summary/Abstract: The paper attempts to present the current political and social situation of the Mandaeans, an ancient and tiny religious/ethnic minority of Iraq and Iran, in their homelands, as well as in the diaspora. The paper focuses on the challenges these communities have faced as a result of certain events, such as the 1979 Revolution in Iran, the Iraq-Iran war, the 2003 military operation in Iraq, and the still ongoing migration within their homelands as well as to third countries. The paper discusses the impact of these events on the everyday functioning of the communities, their self-identification, their self-preservation, and the possibilities of survival.
