Summary/Abstract: Protestant churches (Lutheran and Calvinist) were established in the South-Pannonian Basin (Délvidék) in the 18th century. At the time, Hungarians, Germans and Slovaks living in the region of the Danube, Tisza, Drava and Sava rivers formed their parishes. Around the turn of the century, notable clerics (Gábor Belohorszky, József Koch, Frigyes Steltzer, Gusztáv Bierbrunner, Adolf Kernúch K.) recorded the ecclesiastic and historical conquest of the people settling in the area. This study commemorates these clergymen on the occasion of the 500-year anniversary of the Reformation and also encourages further research on the topic. The authors point out the necessity of comprising a comprehensive study based on previous research which were carried out by historians from Germany, Hungary, Slovakia and Serbia.
