Summary/Abstract: Enumerating literary characters that read certain books – such as don Quixote, Hamlet, Anna Karenina, to mention only a few of the telling examples the author gives from the numerous works of world literature along the centuries – the author comments on the virtual world of literature – a dangerous one – as a means to evade reality, on literature as a creator of an alternative world, on reading as self-delusion, as a lucid text analysis or as a means to understand an unbearable reality.
