Summary/Abstract: The article is dedicated to the 130th anniversary of the establishment of the first Bulgarian University Library and traces the main moments from the development of the University Library “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Founded on 29 October 1888, within the Higher Pedagogical Course, the Alma Mater Library plays an important role in the development of Bulgarian science and education. It is one of the libraries with national importance in the country, the University Library is affirmed as the largest scientific library. Today it is a modern library complex, which consists of a Central Library and 28 branch libraries at faculties and specialities. The library offers services that combine traditional and contemporary technologies, which makes it a modern library, information, cultural and educational centre.
