Summary/Abstract: The article makes the first attempt to define the boundaries of Žagarė local dialect situated in the northwest part of the Western Aukštaitian subdialect of Šiauliškiai. It reminds the cultural and economic past of Žagarė and its environs, which influenced the formation of social networks and linguistic identity among the residents of the region. Based on the dialectal records of Žagarė local dialect, the article highlights the linguistic attitudes of the respondents and the evolution of their identity.
