Summary/Abstract: This paper offers an outline of an ethical doctrine of Buddhism. In the initial part of the text the fundamental law of dharma is presented, as well as the Four Noble Truths and the Eightfold Path leading to a final liberation from suffering. Then the crucial criteria of good and evil acts are considered, also the principal rules of moral behaviour, followed by a few remarks on Buddhist ethics as a form of consequentialism and of virtue ethics. The last part of the paper attempts to apply the fundamental ethical precepts to selected issues like nature, abortion, suicide and euthanasia.
