It is a separate, decentralized model of social funding, based on “block chains”, growing in response to technological progress, as well as to expectations of IT users with respect to the increasing popularity of cryptocurrencies and the demand for new categories of systems. The essence of the blockchain technology is presented, along with the potential benefits and the variety of applications, especially in the field of banking and finance. The blockchain crowdfunding model and the Initial Coin Offering process are described. Furthermore, the global blockchain crowdfunding market segment is estimated and analyzed. The main benefits and factors (risks) of the model are identified, as well as its growth prospects.
