Summary/Abstract: The article argues that archaization and aesthetic genres of fear are “legitimate children” of the risk society. The galloping technology of the risk society causes growing anxiety and pushes many people to seek revenge against fear. Horror films, vampire saga novels and movies, zombies and other horrifying creatures, are forms of an aestheticized virtual surmounting of fear.
