Energy Security Concept: A Discussion in light of 1973 Oil Crisis

Summary/Abstract: In this study, a discussion about the evolution of the concept of energy security is presented through the analysis of the case of 1973 oil crisis, the critical juncture led to a shift of modern understanding of energy security. This discussion, embracing the neorealist perspective and following the approach of source dependency, calls for a conceptual widening of energy security by including the economic dimension into the concept. This paper, along with this conceptual stretching, elucidates the impact of the1973 oil crisis onglobal economy as well with a specific focus on the strategies that were taken by Western countries so as to tackle with the crisis along with the precautions.
