Summary/Abstract: Two concepts, religion and faith, are discussed in the paper. The relation between religion and faith are explained by supposition that on the one hand faith always and everywhere involves religion but on the other hand can not be of concurrence. A religious discourse, in which faith (individualism) and religion (community) are highlighted, is clearly marked in Baranauskas The Diary. Faith is displayed by private penetration into reality. Baranauskas private notes, alongside with the concepts of religion and faith evidence the rise of faith from religion. Faith demonstrated by Baranauskas, a practising Christian, distinguishes him from the whole religious environment and thus he as if constructs his inner individuality. Therefore Baranauskas, a member of his religious community, manifests faith not only outwards going to church but also inwards: praying mentally in the morning and evening, before going to bed, in private communication with God.
