Summary/Abstract: Ismail Haqqi al-Bursawi, who lived between 1653-1723 and became one of the most authoritative authors of his era, wrote a commentary called Ferahu’r-ruh on Yazıcızâde Mehmed Bîcan’s book named Muhammadiya. The third volume of the book includes the concepts of sem‘iyyat such as heaven and blessings of heaven, hell and hellish torture, huri, gılman, and Burak. Some concepts in Muhammadiya were explained by Bursawi by taking into consideration the verdicts deduced from verses, hadiths, and the views of sufis and poets while the other concepts were only etymologically examined. In this paper, we aimed to examine Bursawi’s concepts of sem‘iyyat in the Ferahu’r-ruh from Bursawi’s point of view. It is possible to say that Bursawi discussed these concepts, from a mystical point of view although they are the concepts of kelam field. When reviewing the concepts, we firstly focus on how they refer to Qur’an, how they are located in hadiths, how Yazıcızâde refers to concepts in Muhammediya, and how Bursawi explained these concepts. However, Bursawi did not mention a different opinion from Yazıcızade when he commented on some of the concepts in Muhammadiya. For this reason, we tried to collect Bursawi’s views about these concepts by taking into consideration his other works.
