Summary/Abstract: The article focuses on odd metamorphoses of the image of Prince Myshkin in the Russian films from the thaw period to the early 21st century. The author considers Dostoyevsky’s character not as an image, but rather as a social and political meme, whose transformation is an example of the trajectory of evolutionary processes in the modern history of Russia. In a separate chapter, the author considers the history of a might-have-been cinematizing of “Idiot”, which had been matured by Tarkovsky for a decade.
