Summary/Abstract: The article is focused on the problem of the most important factor of social relations within a space. The author analyzes the two main approaches to this issue developed by B. Verlaine and A. Lefebvre. For this purpose, the author proposes considering the case of the student campus of KFU (the Universiade Village) and identifying the participants creating the specific space of the hostel. In order to define the character of the participants’ actions and the nature of the social space, the author uses the high modernism space concept by D. Scott and de Certeau’s ideas of strong-weak practices. Facing the contradictions within the practices of strengths and weaknesses and the organization of space, the author concludes that the character of social relations within the social space is affected both by actions (including rules) and the very structure of the space.
