Summary/Abstract: The article investigates the nature of women’s movement in Russia in the following period: 1900—1917. In the study, the author defines the degree of women’s influence on the Russian state policy in the field of gender equality and the formation of consciousness of women. Using the variety of sources the author reveals the contents and the performance of social initiatives of women’s organizations. The author concludes that, thanks to the dedication and diversity of technologies used in the interaction with various agents of government, women’s organizations have achieved a lot. They managed to achieve women’s suffrage, the institutionalization of secondary and higher education for women, women’s access to jobs connected with intellectual labor. Women’s organizations also formed the system of social protection and employment assistance to women. Diverse women’s initiatives on training and education of workers, peasants, intellectuals contributed to the formation of consciousness of women. The author comes to the conclusion that the Russian women’s movement in the early twentieth century acted as a factor of social progress.
