Summary/Abstract: Article describes controversial problems of the Great Patriotic War history; it also defines the role of historical consciousness in the process of a new nation-state identity of modern Kazakhstan society. The article examines the main problems of Great Patriotic War memory preservation in Kazakhstan. Considerable attention is paid to the commemorative practices, which ensure the preservation of historical memory of the Great Patriotic War in Kazakhstan. This memory serves — among other factors — as an identity creation source of the Kazakh. The article illuminates the massive and active participation of Central Asia and Kazakhstan women in the armed defense of the Motherland during the Great Patriotic War.
