Summary/Abstract: The press of the Hungarian minority in Transylvania underwentsignificant changes after the Second World War. Due to the determinantinfluence of Soviet Union, the whole public life was reorganized accordingto the communist model, which operated an efficient propaganda and astrict control of information. Along with the consolidation of the communistsystem, the press was characterized by a tendency of decline of independentdemocratic journals and a rise of papers belonging to the Communist Party.Central journals were founded in order to disseminate more efficiently thepropaganda and to constitute a standard for the local newspapers. Theindependent press of Hungarian minority was fully liquidated by the early1950s, being replaced by organs spreading the official ideology of the regime.
