Summary/Abstract: The origin of scientific views on modernization as a macrosocial process as well as the classic modernization theory formation is investigated in the article and the critical analysis of its fundamental principles is conducted. Based on the historical examples of social and political modernization practice the deduction is made that designing the universal model of progressive development has a problematic character. World-system analysis gives the methodological foundation for the renovation of classical theory in consideration of the modernization models multiplicity principal.
