Summary/Abstract: In the article the artistic image of Latgale in the novel “I veter gulajet na popeliszcze” by the Latvian writer Yanis Niedre and in the story “Dzeń, kali upała strała” by the Belarusian writer Uadimir Arlou is analyzed. It is emphasized that the specificity of aesthetic reconstruction of the 13th century Latgale is mainly determined by the authors’ creative personality and selected genres. Latgale in the novel by Niedre is shown from many perspectives, whereas in the story by Arlou – solely as a land of courageous people who love freedom.
